Welcome to St. Francis Community
East Orland, Maine
We rely on the contributions of friends and supporters to continue this work.
St. Francis Community is currently building a small house for two
long-time members of our community.
This house will replace the home of Sr. Marie, which was destroyed by fire in 2015. Sr. Marie was one of the three initial founders of St. Francis Community and of HOME, a nearby work co-operative.
This simple home was designed by an New York architect, a friend of St. Francis. Other volunteers on board include a licensed electrician and a licensed plumber. A substantial cash gift paid for metal roofing, windows, and doors.
Lucy Poulin, a founder of St. Francis Community, on a rare day off, relaxing in Stonington, Maine.
The new home is adjacent to the St. Francis farmhouse. Here staff, shelter residents, long-term volunteers, and two beautiful dogs reside. The sense of community is apparent whenever residents gather for meals in its great kitchen!
